UPDATES
As is normal, plugin updates are still rolling in. Many have already been updated and installed, but we’ll keep an eye open for any stragglers.
WordPress 4.8.2 Security & Maintenace Release – September 19, 2017
On September 19th, WordPress published an unscheduled release that fixed 9 security issues that were present in the previous and many earlier versions of WordPress.
More information on the nature of the security issues can be found here:
https://wordpress.org/news/2017/09/wordpress-4-8-2-security-and-maintenance-release/
In addition to the update to WordPress, just over a dozen of the plugins regularly used on these websites were updated to stay in sync with the new release.
I have made all updates as of Sept 19th, (Sept 23rd – additional updates) and will be watching for (more) stragglers.
Another problem with W3 Total Cache was identified, and the caching plugin is currently shut off, so widgets, the image library and the customizer are all working again. I am in touch with the hosting tech support to have them look at the caching plugin and the issues it was causing.
I have tested all sites, but if you run across anything that isn’t working right, please contact me immediately.
Thanks!
WordPress 4.8.1 (Bug Fixes) Released August 2, 2017
On August 2nd, WordPress published an unscheduled release that fixed 29 small bugs. According to the information they’ve included, it doesn’t look like any of them were security fixes, but as they often do, they may be holding back security related news until the community as a whole has had enough time to upgrade and protect themselves before disclosing the vulnerabilities to those who may misuse them.
